Palace Club Robbed by Masked Pair at Rabi Mission

Shortly before 3 am two masked robbers broke into the Palace Club cardroom at Rabi Mission Byd binding a janitor and handcuffing him. They cut open the safe with a tarel or pipe wrench and escaped with an unknown amount of money after triggering the alarm. Police report the janitor freed himself and called for help.

Youth held after crash in Union City

A 19 year old Union City resident was arrested on drunken driving charges after his car rear ended a Union City patrol car driven by Sgt. Chuck Foster. No injuries occurred and minor damage to the police vehicle was reported. Foster said he saw the other car approaching at high speed on H Street near Railroad Avenue and slowed to reduce impact.

Firer Keeps Barricade Blaze From Bell Street Shopping Center

Fremont firefighters reported an arson attempt at a city barricade blocking access to Bell Street shopping center. A flammable liquid was poured on the blockage around 2:30 am. The flames burned the barrier but did not destroy it. residents and merchants criticized the city action.

Pleasanton Woman Dies in High Way 15 Collision

Los Banos officials identify Peggy Wilkinson 34 of 4084 Old Way as the deceased passenger. Her husband Allen Wilkinson and five children Marty Rebecca Addi Roxann 1 0 7 are in satisfactory condition. Johnie Linda Jr. of Los Banos drives the other car and is listed with serious injuries. The crash occurred late Friday night about a mile east of the city limits on Highway 15.

Stanford lab occupation ends after nine days

About 60 Stanford University students suspended the Merritt Laboratory sit in after President Kenneth Pitzer ordered the building closed for a week and set a noon Friday cleaning deadline. Leukemia Claims Ex-Army Seargant Who Searched Atomic Crater

Patrick Stout a former sergeant from Stockdale Texas died at 38 after a 22 year struggle with leukemia linked to radiation exposure from entering the Alamogordo crater near the first atomic test. He descended into the crater seeking proof no danger remained but radiation forced him to retreat. He had described the explosion to Dr J Robert Oppenheimer and witnessed the dawn of the Manhattan Project. His disability claim against the Army was denied though doctors later noted a strong probability the radiation caused his leukemia.
