Fremont man pleads not guilty in SP railroad shooting
Jose F Trujillo, 35, accused of attempted murder in the sniper attack on two Southern Pacific workers in the Niles District office, pleads not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. He is ordered back to Municipal Court for a April 22 preliminary hearing. Victims Laurence Fonsten, 37, of Dublin and Rosendo Guzman, 39, of Fremont were wounded. Fonsten and Guzman are listed in fair and satisfactory condition at local hospitals.

Walnut Creek Welding Accident Claims Two Men
Erwin Paul Oberlander 40 of 263 Begier Ave and Guy Manuel McGuire 58 of Pittsburg died after a plate slipped while welding a metal hopper top at the Kaiser sand and gravel plant in Walnut Creek. Detected by Walnut Creek police, both men employed by General Conveyor Construction Co. were married. Oberlander died at Kaiser Memorial Hospital from head injuries. McGuire fell about 16 feet to a concrete apron below.

Rescued Children Recovering After Fire In San Leandro
A spokesman for Children's Hospital in Oakland said four San Leandro youngsters revived by firefighters after a Tuesday blaze are on the road to recovery. The patients range from one month to seven years old and are children of Mr and Mrs Michael Lamay of 748 Victoria Ave. A fifth child, Wayne, age four, died after the fire. The hospitalized children are Ronnie, 7, Caroline, 6, Kathy, and Scott, one month.

Foxes Freed Again At Hayward Nature Center
Four foxes aged two to five years were freed from cages at Hayward Area Recreation District's nature center for the second time in a week. EFARD naturalist Bob Moore found the animals missing this morning. one fox surrendered by walking into the museum. The caper appeared more daring as nets lay beside beehives, implying the foxes were captured this time rather than released.

Stolen Paintings From Rare Steer Restaurant
