Property owners in the Fairview district were told their last chance to protest Oro Loma sanitary district plans for a new sewer system is April 25. A protest committee led by Mrs Velvin Leng, Henry Timm, and Socrates Pynates urges attendance at the April 24 meeting at 15089 Hesperian Boulevard, where protests must be on file by 8:15 p.m. The proposal, based on an engineer estimate, would raise taxes about 50 percent with $3.70 per front foot for installation and about 85 cents per $100 valuation for operation. Land costs are estimated at $210,551.96, with $90,000 district-funded and the remainder assessed on benefited lands. The board set April 25 at 8:15 p.m. for the protest hearing and bid opening.

Cannery workers across three fourths of Northern California plants receive wage boosts retroactive to March under a new contract ratified by Local 768. Hitch-Hiker Hit by Car Near Castro Valley
William W. Statham a 23 year old resident of Kommandorski Village was struck while hitchhiking on Highway 50 near Castro Valley. Edward Lake of Oakland drove the car that hit him and Statham suffered a possible skull fracture and a broken leg. he could not speak as he was taken to hospital in critical condition.
