First Flight of Ford’s Babylift Crashes in Saigon
A U S Air Force CIA Galaxy transport carrying 305 orphans bound for the United States crashed near Tan Son Nhut airport in Saigon. At least 178 aboard were killed with about 100 children and 15 to 60 adults survivors. The crash occurred after the rear loading doors blew off at 23,000 feet, damaging hydraulic systems and causing a loss of control during an attempted landing.
