Ten Year Sentence for Arson in Marquette

John McLachlan, once a noted Sooite, received a ten year term in Marquette branch prison for arson. Warner, who pleaded guilty to aiding the crime, testified that McLachlan hired him for 100 pounds to burn a Stanwood store to collect his brother’s $4,000 insurance. Warner claimed liquor influence and that McLachlan stood to gain. the court's doubt shifted toward McLachlan's involvement.

Two Razorbacks Trio Helped Fight For Two Bushels of Trout

Local anglers Paul Lamoria and Menzo Gates returned from Pine River in Chinpewa County with about two bushels of brook trout. They defended their catch against a caustic magazine editor, saying the fish were taken legally in seven hours from 6 a m to 1 30 a m.
