R J Green, local rep for J H Green & Sons, argues city should lay the Ashmun Street sewer in winter. He says winter allows easier gas ventilation, avoids summer traffic, and spares resort business from torn up streets, despite general sewer costs favoring winter in some cases.
John McLachlan, once a noted Sooite, received a ten year term in Marquette branch prison for arson. Warner, who pleaded guilty to aiding the crime, testified that McLachlan hired him for 100 pounds to burn a Stanwood store to collect his brother’s $4,000 insurance.
