Welcome in Helena as North Dakota volunteers tour city
Nearly five hundred North Dakota volunteers returned from San Francisco and the Philippines in two sections on the Northern Pacific and were welcomed with food and drinks by Helena residents. The city council debated fare control as President Parden was arrested for charging more than 5 cents to the Northern Pacific depot. A council hearing on Parechen is set for this afternoon.

Admirals Dewey Receives Grand Welcome in New York
The second day of New York City celebrations for Admiral Dewey opened clear and cool as crowds filled Broadway seeking views of the parade. Mayor Van Wyck presented a gold loving cup at City Hall, then Dewey, Roosevelts, Schley and others rode to the Battery and joined a land parade up to Madison Square. Dewey praised the city and thanked his sailors, with the Olympia captains and various naval and civic leaders publicly honored in a long, vociferous display of public affection.

Fireworks climax over the Olympia celebration
A waterfront New York Fourth of July spectacle unfolds opposite the Olympia anchorage near Grants Tomb. Fireworks explode from mud scows loaded with rockets and mortars as the Olympia crew joins in with a brass band. Explosions light the sky, electrified shells, strobe effects, and sea-side crowds fill the scene before tugs pull more barges downstream.
