Pi National Bank project wanes in West Indies
New York report states the planned Pi National bank in the West Indies, with 400000 subscribed and eleven directors led by William Schall Jr, may be abandoned. Schall sought national status, but a new Treasury power allows designation of nonbanks as U S depositories, reducing the case for nationalization. The San Juan colonial bank is already a U S depository, so issuing circulation would be the sole gain from national status. Directors plan to inform Porto Rico colleagues of the decision.
