Veteran editor Beriah Brown visits Anaconda by Seattle links
Hon Beriah Brown of Seattle, veteran editor now visiting his son A. N. Brown, city editor of the Standard, will likely stay in Anaconda for months. A pioneer Western journalist, Brown once owned the Daily Democratic Press in San Francisco before its destruction by a mob. He later edited Oregon papers and founded Washington’s first daily, the Puget Sound Dispatch. Now in his sixties, he has been out of the field for nearly two decades, during which he served as Seattle mayor.

Anaconda Public Schools Opened With Steady Enrollment
The 1899 1900 term began in Anaconda with attendance similar or better than opening day last year. Teachers returned refreshed after vacations and buildings were cleaned. Superintendent Carroll H Nell sponsored interior repainting and blackboard touchups at the Copper Mining company school. New teaching assignments reflect changes across Central Lincoln and Prescott districts with Miss McDougal and Miss Quiles joining as music and drawing instructors.

Died With His Flock Near Avon Inquest Ordered
Coroner A Hardenbrook was informed by Justice A C Glover at Avon that a sheep herder fell dead ten miles from Uhat Place yesterday afternoon. The shepherd’s name and direction from Avon are unknown. With no trains until 10:40 a m today, the coroner told Glover to hold an inquest. further particulars are forthcoming.
