Northern Pacifics New Freight Depot Elevates Butte Excellence
The Northern Pacific opens a state of the art freight depot in Butte costing about $50,000. A 350 by 60 foot warehouse with 800 by 60 feet for freight, a 160 foot covered platform, 15 car loading at once, and a power plant supplying 19 arc and 57 incandescent lamps. Features include a fireproof vault, glassy oak office interiors, and a large fireproof shed with six inch concrete and asphalt foundation. Freight operations gain speed from four five ton scales and a floor plan that keeps freight separate. The facility, built by Perham Brothers with T H Walsh, is hailed as the finest depot on the system.

Reservoir completed and turned over to water company
The Butte water company completed the massive reservoir near the Big Butte, with a 14 million gallon capacity and 65 foot thick earth and concrete walls. It will store city water and connect to Big Hole river later, with current work on outlet connections finishing in two days. Water will be supplied from Divide Creek in the meantime and the reservoir will be filled over three to five days, averaging 4 million gallons daily.
