Shelled the Rebels at San Pedro River Battery

Manila dispatch reports Sixth artillery shelling a rebel battery across the river from San Pedro at daybreak. A gunboat then moved upriver, driving rebels from the banks with three guns. Night fell quiet as patrols established posts in Negros Cebu and Leyte and clerks departed aboard the Espana. Detachments from Hale and Wheaton brigades cleared the countryside as rebels massed near the water works but made no direct assault.

A Manila dispatch reports two nightly assaults by insurgents near Marquina driving back a Nebraska unit, then targeting the water works from the south. Turner's Death Follows Move to Jellico

Fitth frother Lee Turner of Middlesborough Kentucky traveled to Jellico Tennessee last Monday to collect money owed him. He was allegedly decoyed by his assailants and murdered before warning. Turner, a noted member of the Turner faction, was reputedly deadly and this marks the death of the last of five brothers, all said to have died violently.
