Assessment of Railroads Protest Seeks County Join
Deer Lodge county commissioners urged Silver Bow to join a protest to the state board of equalization over railroad property assessments. They argued that Montana rail lines are taxed unevenly with some lines assessed while many major tracks and spurs are not, shifting tax burden to Silver Bow. Chairman Clark indicated support, amid broader taxpayer complaints about state valuation shifts increasing Silver Bow’s county tax load while other counties cut valuations.
