A 77 year old widow, Mrs. Bimba Quick, was sold at auction by the Lackas waxen township poor to the lowest bidder for her maintenance for a year. The bid started at four dollars a week and rose as bidders crowded Warren K. Rutans hotel Rowland Station. Mrs Quick unexpectedly bid five dollars a month and pledged self reliance to thwart the poormaster bidders.
