Sheriff Summers Murdered by John Wolff in Madison County
James Bimmers sheriff of Madison county was shot at a cabin in Morgan Gulch twelve miles south of Ennis while serving a burglary warrant on John Wolff. Wolff, an 18 year old cowboy, fled by horseback after the ambush. Summers, 42, left Virginia City with Deputy J Johnson, was found fatally wounded. a posse pursued Wolff with alarms across the district.
