A new searchlight fire engine built on Fire Chief Croker of New Yorks guidance arrived from Hampshire and was tested at the West Third Street repair shop. It will fight interior fires by cutting through smoke with rotating eighteen inch projectors and a marine type generator supplying sixty five amperes at thirty volts. The device, the first of its kind, will be housed at Engine Company No 20 in the dry goods district and respond to large fires and special alarms.
