Burglars Take Cash From Alaska Saloon Safe
In Anaconda on April 26 burglars entered the Alaska saloon at 818 East Third Street by wrecking the front door lock. They carried a small 300 pound gate with over $1,000 in cash three blocks to a vacant lot and used an axe to open the safe. Three checks totaling $503 and other papers were left behind. Frank Miller, Austrian owner, says large sums were not routinely kept there and the theft occurred after weeks of steady receipts.

Weather shifted plans as clouds moved in, ending with a lighter downtown dampening. Chief Mentrum and other officials anticipated a larger drenching, but the storm began earlier and left town streets visibly cleaner.
