Jobless rate falls in Missouri in April

Missouri unemployment dropped to 5 percent in April from 5.2 percent in March, with total state employment rising to 1,937,000. Most of the gain came in nonfarm wage and salaried jobs as seasonal increases in construction and services occurred. Average weekly manufacturing earnings rose to 147.40 and hourly earnings to 3.73.

Branch Bank Ruling Bars Same-Business Branches

A Cole County declaratory judgment bars banks and trust companies from establishing branch offices to transact the same business as their parent firm. Judge Riley emphasized preserving competition and preventing monopoly risks from multiplying branch locations. The ruling followed St. Louis Union Trust Company v. Duane H. Weather Outlook for Mid Missouri Warm Temperatures Expected

Three Rivers Electric Cooperative Gets USDA Loan

Ford to receive leeway on testing for 1973 cars

Environmental Protection Administrator William Ruckelshaus said he will grant Ford conditional certification to produce and ship 1973 cars if initial tests indicate full compliance in later large scale testing. This would avert a possible 450,000 worker shutdown and allows testing of up to 4,000 miles to begin within 10 to 14 days while continuing 50,000-mile durability tests.
