Branch Bank Ruling Bars Same-Business Branches
A Cole County declaratory judgment bars banks and trust companies from establishing branch offices to transact the same business as their parent firm. Judge Riley emphasized preserving competition and preventing monopoly risks from multiplying branch locations. The ruling followed St. Louis Union Trust Company v. Duane H. Femberton, in which the finance commissioner denied a June 3 1970 sublease for a branch. The case name and details anchor the decision. In Marion County, Mrs Ruby Procter seeks the August primary ballot as Democratic committee woman for Marion Township, filling the seat left by Mrs Wade who died Monday at Elston.

Ford to receive leeway on testing for 1973 cars
Environmental Protection Administrator William Ruckelshaus said he will grant Ford conditional certification to produce and ship 1973 cars if initial tests indicate full compliance in later large scale testing. This would avert a possible 450,000 worker shutdown and allows testing of up to 4,000 miles to begin within 10 to 14 days while continuing 50,000-mile durability tests.
