Godfrey names five to interim committee

House Speaker James E. Godfrey named five representatives to serve on an interim legislative committee to study changes if a state government reorganization is approved by voters in August. The members are Harold Volkmer James Mulvaney Mary Gant Robert Devoy and Frank Bird. They join Senate leaders and other senators on a joint panel to review consolidation of 87 programs into 14 departments and report recommendations for the 1973 legislative session.

Baker released to begin parole in Lewisburg

Bobby Baker former secretary to the Senate Democratic majority was released on parole after nearly 17 months in custody. He left from a federal minimum security farm near Lewisburg and told reporters he felt fine and free while denying tax evasion fraud and grand larceny charges. He plans no interviews until his book publication. He was sentenced to three years and previously held at Allenwood prison farm.

Prosecution asks jury to convict Angela Davis

In San Jose California the prosecution urged the jury to convict Angela Davis of first degree murder kidnapping and conspiracy claiming she helped plan a bloody courthouse escape to free the man she loved. Prosecutor Albert Harris spoke as Miss Davis listened intently.

Osage City road work eyed with traffic counts

The county court hears a road plan as traffic counters map daily use and a paving program. Luebbert notes that roads with 200 plus daily counts need gravel repairs replacement, with segments on Tankner Bridge Road and Algoa Road planned for paving after surveying landowners and securing right of way. A survey crew will map the stretches and landowners largely back the improvements.
