A Republican meeting will be held at the courthouse in Dahlonega on October 6, 1928 at 11 oclock for organizing a Hoover and Curtis Club in Lumpkin County. Everybody invited. B F Anderson, chairman. Frank L Fitts, secretary.
The Washington Star explains that two tiny particles near each other in water are pulled together because their weights deform the surface, creating a pinching effect. Surface tension drives the surface to shrink exposed area, drawing the particles inward.
Governor L G Hardman proclaims a proposed Georgia constitutional amendment to allow Ware County to increase bonded indebtedness by 250000 dollars for a hospital site and construction in Waycross or Ware County. The measure would be voted at the November 6 1928 general election and ratified state wide.
J H Junkins announces candidacy for Lumpkin County Commission on November 6 and pledges cooperation with Parks and Housley to finance a lasting road program. He criticizes past county handling of indigent care and overpayments to Mary Dyer and a chairman’s son, and says he will tour districts to explain his race.

James F. Lucas of Lucas Paint and Brush Company in Philadelphia, a longtime Republican, opposes Hoover and says he will vote for Governor Smith to end conditions endangering the younger generation.

A vast steel highway bridge rises above the Grand canyon area 180 miles north of Salt Lake City, planned to be the world’s highest road span. The main 618 foot deck arch forms a 833 foot long bridge, linking regions previously separated by river ferries and rugged mountain roads. Completion dates target September 1 for the main span and January 1, 1920 for approaches. The project ends Lee’s ferry operations from 1872, opening Bryce Canyon Kaibab Cedar Breaks Zion and Grand Canyon scenery to new travel.
Chicago researchers from the University of Chicago conclude gland transplanting cannot renew youth or prolong life. Animal tests showed only partial success with same-species transplants, while human trials are unlikely due to cross-species gland incompatibilities.
