In Murphysboro Illinois a bachelor dodges marriage as nine clubgirls secretly vote for him as their would be wife. Each girl casts one ballot in a prank and the club dissolves with the members becoming sworn enemies and vowing not to speak to him again.
A Dahlonega tale tells of a woman from Blue Ridge Georgia who came seeking a husband in town. Discouraged by rejection she left before dawn and was never heard from again, with speculation she may have taken her own life if her pursuer refused to marry and read his home paper.
The Atchison Globe notes a track farmer near Columbus Ga has 2700 barrels of new Irish potatoes ready to ship and will later stock 7000 bushels of sweet potatoes along with beans and cabbage worth several thousand dollars. The column contrasts farm life with social quirks and advice on seed quality and behavior among town and country folk.
A dated program from June 15 1844 lists an Anniversary Ball at the Eagle Hotel in Dahlonega. City government list names Mayor R. H. Baker and Aldermen W. B. Gurley J. K. McGee W. B. Townsend E. Vickery T. J. Smith W. P. Price Wm. J. Worley with Clerk Geo. W. Walker and Marshal.
Baptist Church led by Rev W C Taylor holds Sunday services at 11 am and evening, with a Thursday prayer meeting and Sunday School at 9. Methodist Church led by Rev C P Marchmap offers Sunday services and evening worship, plus Wednesday prayer meeting. Presbyterian Church chaplain D J Blackwell conducts services only on first and second Sundays with Sunday School at 9 am.
