To Xmas buyers at T J Smiths General Store the ad lists oranges lemons cocoanuts mixed nuts candy cheese toys mustache cups and races plus a specialty in good flour feed stuffs dry goods shoes and other items all offered as cheap as elsewhere. They seek twenty year charter with possible renewal and capital stock starting 12000 dollars, adaptable to increase to 50000 dollars, to operate Porter Springs for public use, mercantile, farming, and other related ventures including telephony and transportation near Porter Springs. The petition requests powers to acquire property, issue debt, sue and be sued, establish branches, and appoint directors with principal office at Porter Springs Lumpkin County.
At the December 8 meeting the city council unanimously resolved to convene a mass meeting of qualified white voters at the courthouse at 8 o'clock p m on Wednesday December 12 1906. The gathering aims to nominate a candidate for alderman from each of the three wards. The notice is dated December 3 1906 and signed by Mayor B Vickery and City Clerk Wa J Worthy.
For the coming election the following aldermen are announced for the wards. 1st Ward incumbent G. H. Mc Guire. Quad Ward candidate W. E H. doves. Brd Ward candidate M. J. Williams. Vorer.
