Local notes from Dahlonega and Lumpkin countys life
A miscellany of town items reports visits from former residents, court actions, church and school affairs, farming notes and local politics. Highlights include bridge construction awarding to C M Mode, a high number of community marriages and separations, a pension roll addition for Lumpkin residents, and plans to discuss cattle quarantine with Dahlonega residents.
Mining Notes on Calhoun Vein and Bunker Hill Prospects
Placer work at the Calhoun continues with fine ore from the Vein. Night digging resumes next month. Rogers mine near Amaria reports the pump started and hopes for good strike. Bunker Hill shows solid results with nuggets including a ten pennyweight and a five pennyweight find. Barlow project gains attention as Breymann Shaw and Hopkins visit. O Byarne drills as muck and water are removed. Cattle owners in Dahlonega urged to attend a September 8 meeting on Texas fever quarantine and the potential removal to the county line. New law may add 26 000 to 28 000 to state treasury from corporate annual returns.
