Leap Year and Calendar Reforms Through the Ages
The article traces the calendar drift from Earth rotation and lunar months to the Gregorian reform led by Pope Gregory XIII. It notes ancient adjustments from Julius Caesar to Augustus, the Council of Nicaea, and the 1752 English adoption removing eleven days. It explains omitting three leap years per four hundred years and the 1700, 1800, and 1900 patterns, with references to the pilgrims landing and dating changes while week structure remains unchanged.

Fragmented musings mix politics farming and folklore
A scattered column surveys brief maxims on rhetoric from ancient examples, then shifts to practical farming advice on manure construction and storage. It meanders into anecdotes about sales, religion, vanity, and a zoological showman, finishing with a humorous note on a beast swallowing a bite.
