After hours in a deep slumber, concern rises among family and friends as the patient regains awareness and questions his wife about the drastic procedure, recalling prior illness and the physician’s methods.
A Memphis cotton broker pursues a young woman who travels by boat from Cincinnati to New Orleans. He aids her after a theft at a hotel, but her brother is absent and she later departs by train to Chicago. Memphis tracks her, loses money and jewelry, and seeks repayment as authorities chase clues.
