Local notices and society notes from an 1876 paper
In this fragment from a southern 1876 issue community life highlights include voting remarks, appointments, and local business notes. It mentions J. P. Harrison & Co. as Franklin Printing House proprietors, the Douglass Building sale, Elgin Watches offered by D. L. S. Jacut, and advertisements for Boschee’s Syrup and Green’s August Elixir. Marriages at the local Methodist church are reported along with a list of post office letters and brief notes on regional news and weather.
Marriage ceremony and festive reception described
A detailed account describes a wedding near Benarol High with a bride supported by her groom’s family in a formal church ceremony led by Rev. R. Dizon. Guests then joined a lavish banquet with elaborate decorations and a wide feast, followed by social entertainment and departure as time pressed on. The piece also notes a cold morning with ice in exposed areas and includes wide excerpts from The World’s New York edition about the party’s victory and political unity.
