Cannibalism tale surfaces from Colorado Ute Agency report
A letter to the Interior Department recounts a grim incident on the Ute reservation in 1874. Five men reportedly killed by companions for food, with one survivor arriving at the agency after two and a half months. Civil authorities will conduct an inquest. Wine Making in the South Shows Strong Scuppernong Results
A South city experiment by W. C. Tucker begins with four acres of Scuppernong and eight of Catawba. The Scuppernong vines yield a large first crop and robust wine, brandy, and varieties in dry sweet and champagne. Projections show five to six thousand gallons next year and up to ten to fifteen thousand per acre when mature.
