Emancipation of the Souths staple through debt reduction
The article argues that reduced consumer credit this year, especially among planters, will lay groundwork for independence and stronger commerce next year. It links lower debt to safer pricing, benefiting merchants and planters while freeing the staple from mortgage pressures and speculative manipulation. It recalls postwar economic strain and urges continued thrift and economy as a path to progress. It notes the Superior Court in T errell county hearing the Chas. T. Jackson murder case with extended trial and pending verdicts, and praises the jurors for their endurance and the court's allowances.
