Monster Grampus Sighted in Charleston Harbor Displayed at Military Hall
Fishermen chased a giant sea creature near Wappoo Cut, towed the dead grampus to the Military Hall where it was exhibited. The 18 foot long whale family specimen drew crowds until it was to be cut up for oil. Professor Holmes identified it as a grampus species, first known visit to the harbor.
