Rye for Pasture and Southern Agriculture Growth

A long excerpt urges rye planting between the thirtieth and fiftieth parallels for winter pasturage and fall grazing. It explains rye’s value for stock, especially cows, lambs, and hogs, and notes timing for sowing and the benefits of early-maturing corn varieties. It also highlights a broader shift in the South toward diversified crops, claiming surplus cereals in Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Alabama. A farmer’s creed and practical home remedies punctuate the piece, including advice for poison ivy and wart removal.
