Boers Stand Firm Against Invasion and War Dispatches

Fall Millinery Opening At Simon Leiser And Co

A large turnout attended the Fall Millinery opening at Simon Leiser & Co. Ltd to view the latest headwear models for the season. Mrs. Clifford supervises the department showcasing many smart styles with a wide color range led by black white cerise and flame. Afternoon tea on the balcony hosted by Mrs. H Wilson facilitated social chatter among visitors.

Women’s Patriotic Society Forms in Cumberland Bevan

An enthusiastic Cumberland and Bevan gathering in Oddfellows Hall founded a Women’s Patriotic Society. Officers elected include President Mrs Hood and Secretary Mrs Clinton. Members plan garment drives Tuesdays 2–5 pm and seek donations of materials and money to support soldiers at the front.

Cumberland Firemen Win Vancouver Island Cup at Alberni

Alberni September 9 The Cumberland volunteer firemen dominated the Vancouver Island contest taking the Canadian Pipe Company cup as island champions. Cumberland won all three tests dry 40 1 2 Alberni 42 1 2 wet 39 Alberni 42 1 2 breaking hose line 1 5 Cumberland 1 14 2 Alberni. Minor events saw Cumberland win hub to hub race 28 seconds while Alberni’s Drinkwater won the dummy contest.
