At the Guildhall inaugural banquet for the new Lord Mayor Sir Charles Johnston, 1000 guests including Ministers, diplomats, and Allied reps heard Lord Kitchener and others praise Allied resolve. The speech peers urged more enlistments, stressing the war’s unprecedented global stakes and the need for continued support.

Death of Miss Dora Sandland at 13

Dora Sandland aged 13 of Bevan died at Cumberland Hospital on Sunday due to blood poisoning from a fall during tonsillitis. Dignified service held at St George's Presbyterian Church Cumberland with Rev J Hood and Rev W Elliott. Interment at Cumberland Cemetery. Pallbearers and floral tributes listed. funeral arrangements by Mr T Banks Cumberland.

Harrison Frame Wedding in Cumberland Seated for Seattle

The wedding of W. J. Harrison of Seattle to Miss Jessie Frame of Cumberland was held at the Frame home by Rev. J. Hood. The bride wore a blue travelling dress with matching toque and carried bridal roses. sister Agnes Frame was bridesmaid in prune broadcloth with white plush hat. The groom was Robi. Gordon of Seattle. After the ceremony the couple left for Victoria en route to Seattle to establish their home. The bride had been a Cumberland teacher and was highly regarded. her absence will be felt in social and winter entertainments.

Women's Patriotic Society Holds Third General Meeting

The Ladies Patriotic Society met on a Tuesday afternoon amid stormy weather with few attendees. They decided to pause work in December and resume in January, requesting all work be completed by the last Tuesday in November. Grace Methodist concert at City Hall appeals to all

A grand concert under Grace Methodist Church auspices to be held in City Hall on Monday at 8 p m features top local and outside talent. Admission is 50c and 25c. Invitations are issued for the Harmony Dancing Club opening dance at Ilo Ilo Hall on Thursday November 19. The club comprises Cumberlaid youths planning semi monthly dances all winter with careful planning to ensure enjoyable evenings.

Courtenay Light Project Progress Report

Mr and Mrs Sam Piercy departed for Southern California on Wednesday. Sink Kee's special train left for Bevan yesterday and will return at midnight. Transformers for the Courtenay Light Heat and Power Co are due next week and the light will be turned on. Arrangements have been made to light the streets of Courtenay.
