The Holy Trinity Church social committee held a combined Bridge and Whist Party on February 25 with six bridge tables and four for whist. Refreshments were served by the Ladies’ Auxiliary, and results crowned Mrs W A Owens and Rev E H Nunns in bridge and Mrs F Slaughter and Sandy Walker in whist. Mr T H Mumford presided as floor manager and urged a larger turnout next time.

James E. Taylor Sentenced Six Months For Liquor Sale
In Courtenay Friday night James E. Taylor was found guilty of selling intoxicating liquor to Indians. Magistrate Hames sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment after strong aboriginal testimony. Mrs. Taylor pleaded guilty and was fined fifty dollars under the Dominion Indian Act. An appeal in James E. Taylor’s case was filed and will be heard March 12 next.

Scotch Music Brings Dancers Back To Hall
The Women's Auxiliary of the G W W A hosted a whist drive and dance at the Association Hall with over seventy five attendees. Goodall's Orchestra provided music for a half hour of Scotch dances drawing many back to the floor. Winners at whist included Mrs J Walker, Miss L Henderson, Mr J Foley, and Mrs T James.

In Victoria British Columbia on February 28 the third party’s charges against Government minister William Sloan and contractor Bowser were fully disproved after a week of Royal Commission testimony. Justice Galliher closed the Sloan case as adjournment granted for next charges. Premier Oliver and witnesses spoke to efforts on the P.G.E. road project and its progress.

Hiram Lodge A F and A M held its annual ball at the Gaiety Theatre drawing about 250 attendees from Cumberland and the Valley. The event featured Masonic color decor, a supper in Booths building, music by Plump's Orchestra Cumberland, and was directed by L B Cokely and team.
