Redistricting Board sits to redraw Texas House seats
The State Legislative Redistricting Board is drafting a reapportionment bill under court deadline. The move ends the need for an early special session, pleasing Speaker Gus Mutscher and Governor Preston Smith. Briscoe enters governor race with focus on bank bill reforms and transit plans. An Ethics Commission is formed with appointees across both houses and the judiciary. Governor Smith announces several agency appointments and opinions on legal matters.
