R Whittlesey of this city receives word of the death of his brother Simeon Whittlesey in Macomb Illinois. He will leave on No 6 train to attend the funeral Wednesday. Deceased was a well known Creston resident until about twenty years ago and had many friends here.
Announcement states an American Legion game vs Nevinville Hero at Irving Athletic Field in this city at 3 30 p m next Thursday. Both teams have played strong baseball this year and a large crowd is expected.
Hickok reports ongoing work for Council 549 despite a communications gap. At the Du Duque Grand Council, delegates enjoyed a parade, raised funds for the Ladies Auxiliary, and heard tributes to W B Emerson. Iowa won the 1920 membership campaign Flag, with Dubuque leading gains at 100 percent. Oskaloosa was named next Grand Council City. a Picnic was held at the Country Club Grounds with prizes in a Fats and Leans baseball event.
Creston forms a four team Moonlight League with Presbyterian Baptist Knights of Columbus and Swifts. Nine game schedule runs June through August with games Mon Tue and Fri at Irving school grounds. Top two teams clash for title after season.
A Creston hotel gathering for the Fraternity featured two boxes of cigars for the boys and a Lamb shaped cake presented by Mrs E P Bone who has been ill. The Larson Russell committee provided ample eats and drinks including twenty five spring chickens. A big August meeting starts the degree work without ritual and begins a membership drive. Pay call 162 is due and member address changes should be notified.
Out of town mourners who came for the funeral of George Baker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Baker, who was killed overseas, include Mr. and Mrs. James Baker and their Ot tumwa children, Mrs. Frank Biven of Osceola, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Emery and Walter Emery and son of Osceola, Iowa.
The Sorosis Society of the Lutheran church will meet Wednesday evening at Miss Lela Wahlstroms home on North Walnut street. All members are urged to attend.
Several automobile loads of Creston Lodge No. 605 Elks travel to Atlantic Iowa for a big initiation. A class of about one hundred candidates is to be initiated into the Atlantic lodge with second degree work and a banquet planned for the evening.
One divorce was granted this forenoon in Union county district court in the case Marguerite Hoaglan versus Lest er Hoaglan. This afternoon the Hawthorne versus Edwards et al case was on trial at press time. Several other cases have been assigned for trial this week.
Seventeen year old Donald Seefeldt died from internal injuries after a pleasure flight crashed at the Red Oak field. Pilot Paul Green of Grand Island Nebraska suffered multiple injuries but was expected to recover. Seefeldt is remembered as a popular Red Oak youth, son of monument dealer Jack Seefeldt.
A Hampton and Sinclair produced study of New York blending high society with the Oriental underworld. The film follows a breathless sequence of adventures through glittering wealth and drug laden crime, adapted from Sinclair's novel.
Carl Ohlschlager formerly of Cres ton wed Miss Garnet Tory at Platts mouth Nebraska on June 7. He is known in Creston where his father Chas Olschlager lives. He serves as superintendent of the Aberdeen American Co. in Aberdeen South Dakota. The couple will reside in Aberdeen after June 28.
J. H. Minton a railroad conductor from Lincoln Nebraska was injured yesterday in Hastings Iowa while on duty. He was brought to Greater Community hospital in Creston for treatment and today was reported to be getting along as well as could be expected.
Members will hold a regular session tomorrow afternoon June 28 at Potter Post Hall. Initiation and other business will be discussed, and all members are urged to attend.
The V C C Club members entertained their husbands at Mrs. C B Morgan's Platte Township home Saturday evening. Forty one attended with music and entertainment including a recitation by Miss Mable Schofield and various vocal and instrumental selections. Refreshments of homemade ice cream and cake were served.
The clerk of court issued marriage licenses to Harry D. Goddard and Ruth Hull from Spaulding Iowa, Edw. Ohlsehlager from Creston Iowa, and Nellie C. Hartley from Lamar Missouri. Blanche Easton returned from Lawton Oklahoma, visiting with aunt Mrs. Nina Mouth. Mrs. C. C. Webb and son Verlyn arrived from Kansas City Missouri for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. James McKee. Dr. T. A. Reed of Hot Springs South Dakota was in town briefly before heading to Leavenworth Kansas for work at a sanitarium. Mr. and Mrs. Fred B. Erdhaus and son Junior, visiting Shelbyville Indiana, are in the city en route to Denver Colorado.
