Body of Geo Baker Arrives Tonight in Creston

The body of George Baker arrives in Creston tonight aboard No 14. Funeral services are planned for Sunday at 2 30 PM at the south side park weather permitting. The service will be strictly military under the local Legion Post with Rev J H Woodsum officiating and interment in Graceland cemetery.

Local Elks Invited To Atlantic Initiation

The local Elk lodge received an invitation from Atlantic Lodge No. 445 Atlantic Town to attend a large initiation in Atlantic on June 27. The day’s program starts with a 1 15 p m regular session, initiation first degree at 2 p m, second degree at 7 p m, followed by an athletic contest. Around 9 30 p m there will be a large event at the city auditorium for Elks and families with Creston Lodge No. 605 members expected to attend.

Banquet and Ceremonial Draw Union Shrine Members

About one hundred members attended a Union Shrine No. 23 banquet at the Iowana hotel with a cross shaped centerpiece and yellow white decor. Following the meal a program featured remarks by Mrs. Arthur Carter and others, then 37 candidates were initiated at the Masonic hall, with many district members observing.

Stitchery Club Members Entertained

Stitchery club members were entertained at Mrs Elmer Laughlin's East Howard Street home yesterday afternoon. They enjoyed fancy work music and contests with prizes won by Mrs J P Martin and Mrs O Danielson. Luncheon was served and the next meeting is set for Friday afternoon July 1 at Mrs Norman Kilburn's home.

Legion Game Sunday Canceled After Fatality

The American Legion baseball team manager announced that the Sunday game against Nevinville has been canceled due to the funeral of the late George Baker, who was killed overseas, to be held Sunday afternoon at South Side Park.

Last evening at 7 20 died the two weeks old son of Mr and Mrs W E Ribbey of East Montgomery street The funeral will be Saturday at 2 30 pm at McGregor Bros Coens Chapel with Rev J H Woodsum officiating at the First Baptist Church Interment will follow in Graceland cemetery.

Pretty Home Wedding in City Last Evening

A home wedding was solemnized at the bride’s parents residence 405 North Oak street. Miss Ruth Elaine Roberts married Mr. Willard George Williams with Rev. David Ferguson officiating. The couple left for their honeymoon and will reside in Creston after their return.
