Submarine S-48 Crew Rescued After Ashore Incident
The submarine S-48 was driven ashore near Portsmouth harbor overnight and the crew were rescued by coast guardsmen at 8:30 AM as seas subsided. They were warmed, fed, and taken to Fort Stark before moving to the navy yard. Three sailors were carried aboard the tug due to numbness but recovered. the vessel had been leaking chlorine gas before the rescue.

John Frederick 94 Dies at Home After Illness
John Frederick, 94, died at 9 oclock this morning at the home of his son Frank Fredericks on North Poplar street after a fall that broke his hip. He had lived with his son and previously with his daughter Mrs T H Sandeman on West Millie street. Surviving are two sons Frank and Charles, and a daughter Mrs T H Sandeman, all of Creston. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
