President and Mrs. Harding hosted the diplomatic corps at the first formal White House dinner of the new administration. About 80 guests attended including ambassadors ministers and charges d affaires, with Secretary of State and Mrs Hughes and Prince and Princess Cantacuzene among them.
Evangelist Rev. James W. Kramer and choir leader Ralph F. Mitchell were abducted by eight masked armed men as they left a revival in Salida Colorado. They were forced into a car taken to Wellsville six miles away and told to stay away from Salida. Mitchell later returned to town to fetch Kramer. The pair had been speaking against alleged immorality in Salida.
Mrs. Annie S Simons of Hareston F C sues the executors of Mrs. Frank Leslie estate. Witnesses say Leslie orally promised Simons $50 000 for nursing and companionship, but the will left only 10000 while most of the 1 5 million estate goes to Carrie Chapman Catt to further woman suffrage.
Tokio January 21 The Executive Committee of the Women’s Peace Association after a December 13 meeting in Tokio adopted a resolution praising progress at the Washington Conference and pledging to work with women of other nations for true international friendship. Religious bodies plus missions nationwide have endorsed world peace efforts including the Episcopal and Methodist missions, the Japan Congregation mission, the Salvation Army at Toyohashi and eight other associations.
Relatives of Billy Hines held a surprise party in Orient Iowa honoring his fifty fourth birthday. Family members from Creston Greenfield and Des Moines attended with baskets and a fine dinner served.

The proposal would create a southeastern peninsular territory and leave the northern section as a separate territory. Washington January 20 inquiries into senate sentiment on a mileage book substitute for the railroads measure indicated adoption of Senator Cummins plan to authorize the Interstate Commerce Commission to issue mileage books at reasonable rates. A large majority of Republicans favored the Cummins plan. Senator Trammer of Florida offered an amendment to issue 1 000 mile books instead of 5 000 mile limits.
In Boston on January 21 police women testified before the legislative committee on social welfare that dancing in several hotels and cafes was suggestive, vulgar and immoral. Representative Mendum said a hotel scene made him feel ashamed and questioned the absence of chaperons. The committee is hearing a bill to require dance hall licenses.
The George W. Clark Circle of the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic cleared a nice sum for their treasury from a home talent play at the opera house Thursday evening. The building was crowded and the audience proved an appreciative one.

Under District Deputy President Laura Casey and Dave Crowley the officers were sworn in including Noble Grand Grace Porterfield and J C Gordon as dual lodge leaders. Visiting members joined in speeches during the social hour after the ceremonies.
Mrs. Margaret Anderson, 63, of Sioux Falls, traveled largely on foot to Washington to seek a pardon for her son Joseph Anderson, a private in Company K 139th Infantry, 35th Division, serving two years at Leavenworth for desertion. He was wounded and gassed in the Argonne and later enlisted elsewhere under a different name. The president promised help, and she planned to wait at Leavenworth gates for action.
J Ia Cornelison announces a closing out sale on Thursday January 26 at Davenport farm two miles south and four miles east of Creston. Sale includes nine horses and mares eight cattle twenty one hogs and assorted farm machinery and property. Auctioneers are Cola Join F Russell Son.
Everett Clem will hold a closing out sale at the L. J. Cusack farm located two and a half miles north and one mile west of Creston on Friday January 27. The sale lists twenty seven head of stock including twelve horses mares and mules five cattle and ten hogs with grain feed farm machinery and miscellaneous property. Cols. John F. Russell and Son are the auctioneers.
A school of instruction for the Eastern Star was held at Orient Louisiana with Mrs Myrtle Wiley as instructor. Several visitors attended and four new members were initiated. Refreshments were served by a committee.
County Superintendent Nancy M. Bell announces amended petition to dissolve Cromwell Consolidated Independent School District spanning Union and Adams counties Iowa. Objections must be in affidavit form filed by Feb 1 1922 at Creston Court House. Public notice signed January 18 1922.
