Smallpox deaths reach three in Bristow Iowa with Joseph Jungkunz cashier at Citizens State Bank among the victims. Burlin Surfus and Minnetta Knoll also died in the outbreak as unvaccinated family members. In Clarksville Iowa a declamatory contest involving area high schools was postponed due to the outbreak.
Charles E. Hearst of Iowa testifies before the House Agriculture Committee claiming Secretary Hoover seeks to dominate U S farming. He cites a magazine article attributing to Hoover authorship of ideas in Capper Williams farm relief plans and urges earlier legislative aid. The session also covers the Coolidge agricultural conference and McNary Haugen proposals.
State Agent Hi Yackey and Sheriff Ed Cooke of Clinton returned to Clint on without new clues in the Brownfield murder case. Don Davis from Davenport investigates Milton Hodge alibi for the Davenport murder. Officials would not discuss developments, citing interference from premature publication.

Six child welfare measures from the Iowa commission were introduced, along with a measure to let insurers file sheriff’s bills of sale with the insurance commissioner. The Loverien4 Prockhart plan to create a state banking board was also presented in the House.
In Des Moines on February 13 the name of the Ku Klux Klan is raised as a debate moment during a committee report on Representative Long's interracial marriage bill. The report is defeated 29 to 63, and the bill remains on the calendar. Long insists he is not Klan, seeking to address a social issue caused by cross race marriage.
State House Des Moines Feb 13. A bill by Senator Bowman would grant three days of law study credit for each day served in the legislature to applicants admitted to the bar. The measure passed the senate and moves to the house. Bowman said the bill helps members who gained familiarity with law during service pursue further study.
Senator Stoddard of Woodbury county introduced a bill creating a state board of architectural examiners and requiring licenses for architects. The measure passed the senate today 26 to 7, urged by the architects' organization to raise professional standards. Similar bills have recently passed in several states.
Pontiac Michigan February 13 sheriff s forces sought six men who fled Oxford Michigan in an automobile after shooting and killing Jay Gould a night watchman Early reports that Gould was killed during a bank robbery attempt were discarded as no entry to the Oxford Savings Bank was attempted
In Coleman Michigan Victor Badgley 29 has admitted killing Marguerite Todd 11 with a pocketknife. Sheriff Thomas Bailey reports the confession following the stabbing on the route home from school yesterday.
Herman M Mangels a farmer near Fontanalle filed a voluntary petition in bankruptcy in federal court here listing debts of 68578.53 with 61665 secured and 6905.56 unsecured. Assets valued at 7. Miss Eva Wallace Miss Pessie Mudra and Sullivan Crane head to Shenandoah for a 4 to 530 program with Mudra piano and Crane vocal performances. Lyle Perry of Afon will also participate.
In Washington the House erupted as Rep Vinson read a poem titled Cal's Hobbyhorse. Rep Luce and others argued it breached rules by ridiculing the president, but Rep Snell overruled them and Vinson finished the reading. The verse compared the Prince of Wales's trials with Cal Coolidge and joked about naming the White House horse.
Cave City reports that H T Carmichael and officials emerged from the shaft after a failed tunnel attempt toward Sand cave where Floyd Collins has been trapped for two weeks. Digging resumes at the shaft bottom, with two to three days expected to reach 70 feet and begin lateral tunnels.
The Creston school board expects final architectural plans for the new two story and semi basement high school to be submitted March 9 for approval or rejection. A general plan calls for a U shaped structure with a 1500 seat auditorium and gymnasium in the basement, costing about 260000 to 270000 dollars plus equipment.
Wheat opened active in Chicago with gains to seven cents, May futures touching 1.84% a bushel on export demand and rival markets in Liverpool and Buenos Aires. A swift rise triggered heavy profit-taking and a subsequent reversal, with May futures retreating to 1.89% as feed grains weakened.
Bisig said he heard Collins cough twice at 4 30 this morning and again in the main passage of the land cave. He and several men went into the passage and Bisig called to Collins but received no answer. The report continues on page 3.

Des Moines February 13 The Iowa house gas tax committee plans to hear Governor Hammill’s formal statement on roads but copies could not be made in time. The governor favors a comprehensive 13 year road program funded by a three cent gas tax plus federal aid and motor vehicle income. Some members doubt the legislature will back a large scale plan while the committee leans toward a two cent proposal.
In Plains Montana Mrs Ora Pierce 22 of St Maries Idaho is killed by a gunshot to the neck while in bed. Mrs Clyde Long wife of a lumber worker is dying after shooting herself in the breast following the incident. Authorities suspect jealousy and say Long will be treated at Missoula hospital. Mr Long works at a lumber camp near Dixon.
Geneva February reports note a gloomy mood about the Geneva peace protocol from the League of Nations assembly. Britain shows reluctance to accept the protocol prompting talk of remodeling. The League commissions will shift to armament questions including private arms manufacture control at its inaugural meeting.
The district court grants continuances for Elmer L. Hunt and Harry C. Chittenden as the Union County Bar committee pursues disbarment charges filed January 26. Judge Homer A. Faber oversees, with Judge O. D. Wheeler appointed to preside after a transfer order.
Trial of R. B. Roberts versus Clete and Barnard Kelley over an auto collision at Pipe and Mills streets was expected to finish this afternoon in district court. Damages sought were 150 dollars with a counter claim of 69 dollars. Impaneled jurors include Adkins Leary Strey Robbins Chandler Owens Smith McChesney White Deer McGinty Staples.
Fremont Neb February 13 A 12 year old girl Emma Jensup to testifying against men who killed her grandfather and wounded father. One foot frozen for six weeks while in South Dakota. Teacher Miss Leta Marti notified authorities and arranged medical care. Doctor says the foot can be saved.
Rufus E. Lee resigns as president of Continental Gas and Electric, effective March 1, to be succeeded by Richard Schaddelee of Chicago. B J Denman of Davenport will supervise Continental subsidiaries, and United Light and Power may move its Lincoln office from Omaha.
