A Chicago Burlington and Quincy roundhouse in Council Bluffs was burned out today, causing about $20,000 in losses. Four large Burlington engines housed there were badly damaged and will require overhaul before reuse.
Two passenger trains collided head on at Paper Mills station near Bryn Athyn on the Reading railroad. Early reports indicate as many as sixteen dead and about twenty injured as forward cars burned after the smash about sixteen miles from Philadelphia.
Washington December 5. Japanese opposition leader K Mochizuki urged creation of a general international committee to study China and devise a practical method to apply the Chinese financial consortium. The panel should investigate China to learn what it is and how to establish a stable government and sympathy for it.
Wessley Glassgow, a noted halfback on the Southwest Iowa team, is elected captain for 1922 by coaches of the Sentinel Post. Thirteen letters will be awarded to the following players: Tompkins, Rydberg, Wilson, Ashbaugh, Stetler, Willis Glassgow, Bloom, Hunter, Howard, Wessley Glasgow, Stibbs, Berry, and McCracken.
Des Moines central Iowa grain dealers prepare to oppose any corn strike movement urged by farmers for 1922. Colonel L W Ainsworth, a farm owner and conference representative, says the group will wage a strenuous campaign to curb such agitation.
Washington reports that over four years ending November 1 the federal government spent more than 8.525 million dollars on building bridges for federal aid highways. If laid end to end these bridges would stretch about 47.4 miles. The department estimates total cost at 20.235 million dollars with about 42 percent funded by the government.

Davenport Indiana December 5 mystery shrouds the death of Mrs Bessie Rohrer whose body was found early last evening in her rooms. A forehead wound and blood stains suggest murder and investigators seek answers in a case that shocks the neighborhood.

London reports state leaders say Irish peace negotiations have collapsed. Daile Errin delegates are expected to return to Ireland tomorrow or Wednesday amid breakdown claims.
