Adams Theatres Company Indicted for War Tax Embezzlement

J L Adams of the Adams Theatres Company indicted by a federal grand jury in Des Moines for embezzling 25000 in war tax receipts. The company also faces the same charge for failure to remit revenue funds from admissions at theatres in Iowa. Adams, once president, previously operated the Willard Theatre in Creston.

Arbuckle Manslaughter Jury Fails to Reach Verdict

San Francisco December 3 The jury in Roscoe C Fatty Arbuckle manslaughter trial adjourned for a two hour lunch break after six hours and a quarter of deliberations with no verdict. The panel of seven men and five women reportedly stood eleven to one for acquittal at 11 pm the previous night.

Three Die in Stabler Hospital Fire Tragedy

Three bodies recovered from Stabler Hospital ruins in Greenville Alabama after an early morning fire. The dead include Robert Scott of Montgomery and Danial Driggers of Greenville. Poses as Salesman Steals $24,000 in Gems

Diamonds and other jewels valued at $24,000 were stolen two weeks ago from the gate in the offices of C. G. Malliet & Co. The thief, posing as a printing salesman, gained entry to the offices and stole two wallets containing the gems from the safe.

A violent storm moving from northern Idaho swept through Utah Idaho and Wyoming with high winds hail lightning and thawing rain and snow. Two Payson Utah stores were destroyed by lightning sparked fire causing several thousand dollars in losses. Air mail service was halted as conditions persisted.

British inquiry into tar and feathering of pastor in Miami

Under instructions from the British embassy in Washington, A H Hubbard the British vice consul in Miami began an inquiry into the flogging tar and feathering of Rev Phillip S Irwin archdeacon of the Protestant Episcopal church and a British subject who worked among Miami’s negro population. The inquiry will also examine similar treatment of George Doty a blacksmith who is also a British subject.

John G. Clark of Bad Axe Michigan testified before a government commission that eggs bought from Michigan farmers last spring at 12 cents a dozen are now sold by a major meat packer at 40 to 50 cents a dozen. The inquiry weighs restricting the Big Five from handling side line food products.

Des Moines on December 3 reports a chase by a victim and over twenty children ending with the capture of two bandits, George Talbert of Wyoming and Clarence Wood of Des Moines, who robbed Emma Farrington’s drug store payroll of 616 dollars. C. E. Ginn aided the pursuit, leading to the recovery of the money.

Lorimer Garage Robbery Ends With Capture and Stolen Car Recovery

Sheriff Fred Collings and Deputy Frank Collings pursued three robbers who stole a new Ford sedan from Orr's Garage in Lorimer. A chase alongside City Marshall John Blair and his son led to the arrest of one suspect near Arispe, with the stolen car found abandoned seven miles south.
