Army Flyers Complete Hop 10 Frederiksdal

An American air corps team led by Lieutenants Smith and Nelson completed a flight from Reykjavik to Frederiksdal Greenland arriving last night. The group passed several U S ships on schedule in favorable weather before mist and rain near Cape Farewell. Locatelli, who joined from Pisa, flew a faster plane and led briefly ahead of the others.

Weather aboard the United States destroyer Barry reported favorable conditions for the Iceland to Greenland leg of the round the world flight with good visibility and a helping wind. As the flyers approached Cape Fraewell they encountered mist and drizzling rain reducing visibility.

Locatelli Fails To Arrive In Greenland Search

Washington officials and the army await official word on the safety of American round the world flyers after their 825 mile Iceland hop to Greenland. Officers watched all night for a direct message from the aviators but none arrived by 6 a m. Reports from Halifax last night spoke of their arrival, though direct Arctic communications have been delayed.

Rain Washes Out 1300 Feet of Track on Line

Ackley Iowa reports a two hour rainfall washing out 1300 feet of track on the Minneapolis and St. Louis line between Ackley and Abbott five miles south. The storms began at 4 30 pm and 8 15 pm with strong winds felling trees and damaging telephone lines. railroad traffic is blocked until repairs are completed.

Secretary of Navy On Inspection Trip to Chicago

Chicago August 22 Curtis D Wilbur secretary of the navy was scheduled to arrive for an inspection tour that will cover the Pacific coast and run to September 28. Today's program includes an official visit at the Great Lakes naval training station before he departs tonight for Des Moines.

Cedar Rapids Aug 22 Frank Vopalka 16 escaped from St. Charles Illinois boys school more than a year ago and was captured this morning after a fast chase. Police surrounded his mother's house and a detective chased him to the back yard. He pleaded not to be sent back. Vopalka had been convicted at Dixon Illinois for auto theft and escaped soon after.

Auto and Train Collision Near Summerset Junction

Des Moines reports a car crash with a Rock Island passenger train near Summerset Junction injuring seven people. Among the seriously hurt are Mrs Elizabeth Compton and her son Harry Compton, both of Mason City, plus Mrs Agnes Compton and Mrs Della Duding of Alva Oklahoma. The car was demolished and the train held for repairs while rescuers transported the injured to a Des Moines hospital.
