Old Council Bluffs Jurist Died Last Night
Judge J R Reed aged 94 died in Council Bluffs. A pioneer Iowa jurist, he retired years ago and had served on the Iowa Supreme Court from 1884 for five years, then to Congress from his district. In 1891 President Harrison named him chief justice of the Court of Private Land Claims. He lived in Council Bluffs since 1866 and is survived by his widow.
