A church notices listing sermons at First and Second Presbyterian churches with pastors J Curry Warren Elsing H Doran and events. Special patriotic services May 19 include addresses by Senator Hammond and Judge Woodbridge. social club and community events follow with musical programs and a marriage anniversary celebration.
The A. and P. Store will donate ten percent of all sales on Tuesday May 21st to the Cranbury Red Cross. The Stitch and Chatter Club meets Friday afternoon May 24th with Mrs. Arthur L Burroughs at Orchardeaves Hightstown to discuss club activities and charity work.
Ezekiel S. Barclay president of First National Bank of Cranbury and George B. Mershon cashier attend the state bankers convention at Atlantic City with their wives Mrs Barclay and Mrs Mershon accompanying them.
At summer closing Mr. Dey led boys to Camp Dix following the girls outing. Attending were John Hughes Charles Brown Norman Applegate Bergen Petty Earl Butcher Leslie Perrine Newell Davis Lewis Chamberlin and The Reading Circle. Next Wednesday May 22 Mrs W N Hughes hosts a discussion on The Resources of the South at 3:30. May 29 matinee at Mrs A W Forman’s house, cash box for Belgium children relief will be available.
All members are urged to attend the Middlesex Lodge No. 90 O. C. F. regular meeting Monday evening May 20 at 8 o clock. Important matters will be discussed and every member should be present and interested.
Special services at Schultz Memorial M E Church Sunday feature speeches by Senator James Hammond and Judge Woodbridge plus Rev H F Doran. An 11 p.m sermon on The Challenge of the War to Methodism and Her Answer precedes a Brotherhood Meeting and community gathering with music by Trenton musicians.
A Plainsboro town hall gathering saluted 25 local servicemen with a service flag donated by Jr. O. U. A. M. J. C. Hamilton spoke as councilor while Sadie Seedeker unfurled the flag. George Davison led the Liberty Loan drive, reporting over 28 000 toward the 40 000 goal and a commendation from Governor Strong. A second flag for the Civic Association council room was presented, schoolchildren sang, and Alva Agee urged War Stamp purchases, raising about 200.
The County Board of Elections nominees from Middlesex County include John Hanson Republican Frank O Nelson Democrat William J Banker Republican and Howard H Brown Democrat for one year plus two year terms for Frank O Nelson and William J Banker under a 1918 law. Justice Bergen and Judge Daly commend the four and note they would lead the expanded board with impartiality once confirmed by the Governor. The new law gives the board control over district registries and polling place locations for 86 precincts with terms ending September 1.
Plainsboro records show frequent visits and events as residents travel to nearby towns. Notables include H W Jeffers trip to Boston and gatherings at the Walker Gordon plant, Haver de Grace trips, and a Civic Association lecture by Henry Jeffers at Gertrner's Hotel. Community members attend church events, Red Cross instruction, and Sunday school activities while relatives travel to visit kin and partake in wartime support efforts.
Circuit Court Judge Frank T. Lloyd grants a rule to show cause why the $5,000 verdict in Hazel M. Stout vs. Thomas A. Mount should not be set aside and a new trial granted. The rule returns in Trenton on the first Tuesday in June before the Supreme Court. Amos M. Waln of Trenton represented Miss Stout in the breach of promise suit.
