Mrs Barclay led fundraising surpassing quota by 12 000 dollars as the Liberty Loan Honor Flag and a 20 star Service Flag were raised. The First Presbyterian Church of Hightstown marks the thirtieth anniversary of Rev. Dr. Thomas Tyack’s pastorate with all day services on May 5. Rev. Walter S. Davison preaches in the morning. in the evening the Baptist Church and Peddie Institute join for a talk by Rev. A. W. Halsey on The Christian World Outlook. The history and achievements of Tyack’s era will be shared. Also noted, the Parent-Teacher Association met at the Public School with readings, a food-for-growth talk by a State Agricultural College student, Gertrude Harder piano, and a well-attended program.

Rescue of Ernest Pullen as Orissa sinks by a submarine
Ernest Pullen narrowly escaped death when the British steamer Orissa was torpedoed by a German submarine. A cablegram from London reports he was among 57 YMCA workers sailing for France. He freed himself after his foot entangled in a lifeboat rope, and survivors were landed at an English port within half an hour.
