The Mission Band of the Second Church offers a cake sale in the chapel next Thursday afternoon February 26 from 8 to 6. Choice cakes will be on sale to please housekeepers and patrons are urged to come support the event.
Leroy Davison eldest son of Mr and Mrs Harvey Davison of Cranbury Neck had a close call Friday afternoon on Cranbury Neck road returning from Cranbury Station where he was carting baled hay. A trace unhooked causing the whiffletrees to scrape the wheel and the team to bolt, throwing him to the frozen ground. He escaped with only minor bruises.
A Tuesday evening shower honored Miss Annie Felter at Miss Matilda Voorhees home with many gifts. Guests included Miss Felter and numerous family and friends. A separate St Valentine Eve gathering at Mr. and Mrs. W. E Grove featured music games and a twilight supper with a long guest list headed by Willard Grove and family.
The piece urges residents to keep fire hydrants accessible by not tying horses to them and by shoveling snow from sidewalks. It stresses that failing to do so can slow firefighting, costing time and risking homes, and asks citizens to help fire districts by ensuring hydrants are unobstructed.
The wedding of Myra Darnell Havens and Russell Chambers Spratford took place at the Havens home in North Granbury with Rev. J. Be. Curry officiating. The couple will reside on a Cranbury area farm after a wedding dinner and honeymoon, with gifts including a sideboard and walnut bedroom furniture.
Misa Bessie Clayton, daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert T Clayton of Jamesburg, married P C Reynolds son of Mrs Florence M Reynolds of New Brunswick in a Wednesday 2 PM ceremony at the bride’s Jamesburg home. Rev H J McClenaghan officiated.
The Y P C A of the Second Presbyterian church meets Sunday evening to discuss Rules for Young Business Men and Women led by Charles C. Groves.
The Mission Band of the Second Church plans its annual Gift Meeting in the chapel on Sabbath afternoon February 22 at 3 o clock. Members are urged to bring Chinamite boxes and a gift to support missionaries in the field. A Circle meeting featured readings and songs led by Mrs. Spaulding and others. the next gathering is February 25 at Mrs. G. B. Mershon’s home with a program on The Farm and The Farmer.
Mrs. George Lane died of pneumonia at her Cranbury home on Wednesday at age 86 after a week of illness. She leaves her husband and three children Reed Van derveer and Mrs. Harry Cook of Jamesburg and Henry Lane of Trenton, plus brother Jerome Peterson of Pittsburgh. Funeral from First Presbyterian Church Cranbury at 11 30 Saturday with interment there. Undertaker J Laird Hulse of Englishtown in charge.
Widow of Henry Penson dies at George Mugaugey residence on Wednesday February 18. Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian chapel Cranbury Saturday at one o clock with interment in Brainerd cemetery. Relatives invited to attend without further notice.
Mrs. Mary Lemond died in New York February 11 and was buried at Brainerd cemetery Cranbury on Monday. Born in Allentown New Jersey she belonged to Bethel A M E church in New York for over thirty years and to Eastern Star Ladies Protected Union No 1. She also attended Church League. She leaves four nieces and two nephews Carrie Johnson Gussie Harris Ida Jobson Frank Johnson Richard Marcus Delia Johnson.
Mrs Elizabeth D Stults 65 died at home on New York Avenue Ocean Grove She was a Cranbury resident for over thirty years widow of Symmes H Stults daughter of the late William Cook sister-in-law of Alexander 5 Stairs A daughter Mrs George White of Ocean Grove and sister Mrs Ella Dixon of Middletown N Y Services will be at her late home Thursday led by Rev James C Bills St Pauls M E Church Interment Friday morning at Brainerd Cemetery Cranbury
Mrs. De Maris wife of a former Cranbury Methodist pastor died about two weeks ago in a Philadelphia hospital. She leaves two children. The late Mrs. De Maris was loved for her husband Mr. De Maris, now stationed at Vineland, and known for his sincere character and preaching ability.
Mrs. Jennie Donohay aged 33 died at her home near Cranbury Station early Sunday morning from pneumonia. She leaves her husband and three children Emma Jackson and Elizabeth. Funeral services were held Wednesday from her late residence with Rev. N. E. Webb officiating. Interment followed in Bruinerd cemetery.
Miss Oppenlander, superintendent of the Junior Chautauqua, met with high and grammar school teachers to review the 1914 session program set to begin Tuesday afternoon June 16. Officials aim to surpass last year’s success.
A special Mass for young men is organized at Hightstown Baptist Church. A room is fitted for use and meetings will be held Sunday mornings at 10 o'clock. The class intends to expand into other lines of work with officers elected including President Frank V. Jemison and others.
Farmers urged to attend the February 21 meeting at the Court House New Brunswick to learn contest rules and eligibility. Prof H F Thompson and Providence market gardener R L will share results of cooperative farming and discuss a public market in New Brunswick. Seed corn from H S Lippincott, noted corn king of New Jersey, will be provided.
Joseph Brown describes leaving Brooklyn January 31 and reaching San Juan February 6 amid high seas and rough weather. He notes he was not seasick and enjoyed the voyage plus the harbor view. He adds the weather in San Juan is now very warm.
