The First Presbyterian Church schedules Sabbath sermons by Pastor Rev. J E Curry. Morning topic is Life's Unifier from Philippians 1:30. Evening sermon is Labor that is not in vain from 1 Corinthians 15:28.
Sunday services at Second Presbyterian feature Rev Warren Ellaing preaching on The Indwelling Christ and large Sunday school attendance, now doubled from a year ago with a six piece orchestra. First church C E Society meets next Sunday evening on The Bible led by Miss Sara Perrine. The Second Presbyterian manse described as welcoming with fresh white paint and green blinds.
The Spring Reception of the Reading Circle is set for next Wednesday April 28 at the home of Mr. and Mrs Alvah Forman with a start by 8 o clock. The Circle also meets next Thursday April 29 with Mrs J E Curry at the manse to continue Holland study and social reception follows. Miss Bessie J Bergen who studied at the Art School Trenton will exhibit fine china painting and take orders for exclusive pieces. Rue Taylor and Mr and Mrs George T Wyckoff announce the marriage of Miss Elizabeth Taylor to Harrison Cole Rue on April 14 at Trenton.
John A. DeRoche Jr aged 16 the only son of Deputy Surrogate John A DeRoche of Freehold died after a batted baseball struck him on the temple during a Point Pleasant versus Freehold High game at Freehold on Saturday.
A Foresters of America court was instituted in Jamesburg with seventy five charter members last Thursday night. Supervising Deputy Joseph Zucker man of Lakewood directed the affair and was made an honorary member. Delegations arrived from Lakewood Monmouth Junction and Princeton. A social hour followed with refreshments and cigars.
The Hightstown Chautauqua Committee sets June 16 as the starting week for the event with Swarthmore’s Chautauqua Association supplying attractions. A publicity group and grounds committee are named and merchants are expected to assist in drawing visitors.
The House approved a measure requiring at least five verses of scripture read in public schools daily by a 41 to 14 vote. Assemblyman Kates led the effort with support from Mr. Pescock and Mr. Tobst while opponents cited concerns from Hudson Essex Passaic regions. Richard R. Rowland of Princeton died at 70 from pneumonia, survived by widow and three daughters. funeral at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday from his Nassau Street home. Rowland was a longtime Princeton businessman and civic leader.
Miss Matilda Graham Patterson and Nelson Lane Petty were married at the Patterson home in Trenton on Tuesday afternoon. The ceremony was performed by the bride’s father with Rev Dr Henry Collin Minton assisting. Walter H. Fell stood as best man, and the couple plans to reside in Trenton after a wedding trip.
Through good pitching by G Davison and timely hitting Cranbury Grammar School defeated Jamesburg Grammar School 9 to 4. Next Saturday Cranbury meets Dayton Presbyterian Baseball Club in Dayton. The score by innings shows Cranbury leading 2 0 2 1 0 5 0 0 0 and Jamesburg 0 0 0 1 0 2 1 0 0. Davison struck out 8. Snedeker 2. Base on balls: Davison 2, Snedeker 4. Batteries: Davison and Hall Snedeker and Callahan.
State health authorities report no polluting matter in Cranbury’s public water from samples W-02065 and W-02066. Chief FitzRanpoiry states the water is entirely safe for potable use.
