Sunday services at First and Second Presbyterian churches feature sermons on Christ life and resurrection with deacons and elders attending presbytery. Local clubs report April meetings including Corona Club, Social Club, Reading Circle, Stitch and Chatter, Triangle Tennis Club, plus an update on Oen organist replacement and a fire scare on a neighboring farm.
The young people of the C. E. Society at First Church will present a play titled Bachelors Hall in the chapel on Saturday April 21 at 8 oclock. Reserved seats go on sale after April 8 at Charles Symmes and cost 85 cents. general admission is 25 cents.
Mr and Mrs D N Appleget of 584 East State Street Trenton announce the engagement of daughter Sarah Appleget to Mr G F Gingten formerly of Trenton. The wedding will take place in the near future. Lyceum Course next year featured C L Bergdorfer as the last presenter with piano solos by Gertrude Davieon and Lucille Chamberlin. The Citizen committee planned a course for next year based on subscriber support.
The House passed a 3 30 morning resolution by 373 to 50. Easter scenes unfold at First Church with music and recitations led by Rosella Perrine and Emma Bennett among others. Second Church and Methodist venues feature duets, recitations, and talks. Circle meeting reviews Greek fiction writer Madam Dragoumis and other literary topics with notable readers and performers.
Local Y M C A delegates traveled from Cranbury to Trenton for the Mercer County Y M C A banquet and heard Dr Fisher speak on Preparedness and its link to Y M C A work. A county committee was elected and a fundraiser aiming to raise at least 300 dollars via subscriptions was proposed with a list of collectors assigned by district.
Local plea urges towns including Cranbury to form home defense leagues. Citizens encouraged to display the Stars and Stripes from homes and businesses to show patriotism.
An executive committee led by Wm. H Gordon will oversee a town wide Fourth of July celebration with hopes to add new features. Sub committees will be formed to manage details and citizens are urged to cooperate from the start to show the town is alert and alive.
Miss Sadie Appleget soon to wed G F Ginglen received a birthday linen shower hosted by Mrs George Briggs at 584 East State Street Trenton. Guests enjoyed vocal and instrumental music and dancing after a cut flowers decor. Appleget, known in Cranbury, has many friends and previously received an aluminum shower from her card club.
Frederick C. Everett son of Mr and Mrs George Everett of Lawrence Station and Miss Blanche Ida Wolf of Edinburg were married Tuesday evening at the Hamilton Square Baptist church parsonage. The ceremony was witnessed by close family friends and after the wedding the couple planned a trip through Pennsylvania before settling back at Lawrence Station.
Funeral services for John D. Perrine who died Tuesday night after weeks of illness will be at his Mercer street home in Hightstown this afternoon at 2. He was 66. Interment at Cedar Hill cemetery under Allen and Stults. He was father to William M. Perrine Addi son J Perrine and William Petty of Cranbury, and widowed. He leaves a widow.
A remonstrance signed by over one hundred Cranbury residents filed with Judge Daly opposes renewal of William A. Hibbs inn and tavern license in Plainsboro Cranbury township. Objections include lacking valid signers and alleged sales to minors and drunken patrons amid calls to keep Plainsboro dry. a hearing is set for April 18 with George L. Burton representing Hibbs.
The public school schedules an Easter vacation this Friday through Tuesday. First year class aided by Miss Butcher and Miss Perrine. eighteen new first grade pupils. Two basketball setups funded for boys and girls. thanks to Mr. Albert Titus and Mrs. H. C. Symmes who supplied baskets and equipment. Eighth through First Grades list numerous students. Spring Institute for Hightstown delegates from Mercer County WCTU set April 24 at Baptist Chapel Hightstown with music and addresses. temperance campaign planned. Five Asbury hotels burned in Asbury Park on April 5. Natatorium fire causing $200,000 loss. Grand Central, Ormond, Winthrop, Davenport Inn, Surf House damaged.
