The Cranbrook Amateur Athletic Association met at the YMCA to review the past year and plan for 1924 25. President W M Harris chaired as reports showed a net about 115 from rink operations and 3840 raised to secure arena rental, with plans for baseball football and track events and officer re elections.

Premier King Attends Cranbrook Reception for Liberal Guests
Monday evening the Cranbrook District Liberal Association hosted a reception at K P Hall for Prime Minister W. L. Mackenzie King and colleagues J P A Cardin and Senator Hayden. After the auditorium address, guests were welcomed by Mrs. C J Little and Mrs. P Dallas, with Robinson's Orchestra providing music and a dance lasting into the night.

Banquet and Entertainment for Parents by Local Groups
The C.G.L.T. groups and the Taxis Boys of the Baptist church honored parents with a banquet on Friday October 20 in the church basement. Dr Litch attended as guest of honor. A 130 seat banquet featured a long program of toastmistresses, songs, recitations, solos and speeches by Miss Doris Haynes, Mr Hector Linnell, Miss Mildred Bridges and others. The event closed with a vote of thanks and a final hymn.

The Knox Church W.M.S. annual Thank Offering meeting drew a large crowd with Rev. E. W. MacKay speaking on The Forward Look. Music featured Mrs. Kinghorn and a duet by Mrs. Paterson and Mrs. Norgrove, plus an honorary membership presented to Mrs. MacKinnon by Mr. A. A. MacKinnon. The collection totaled $115, and a social tea followed. Also welcomed visitors Mr. and Mrs. J. Edward Warren from Killam, Alberta, visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Morris Clark.

Second Athletic Meet Staged On Tuesday Evening
The covered rink event drew solid attendance as the police challenged the featherweights in a tug of war. Bobby White and Ed Romanuik fought to a two round draw in boxing. Highlights included high pole vaults over 8 ft 6 in and a strong bag punching display by Fred Wooley. The Rotarians lost two to zero to the Athletic Club in volleyball. Committee leaders were Morris Clark, W M Harris and W A Wilson.

Armistice Day Siren to Signal Two Minute Silence
The City of Cranbrook by request of the Great War Veterans Association will sound the fire siren at 10 58 am on Armistice Day November 11 to start a two minute period of silence across the British Empire. All business should be suspended to honor the remembrance of the 1918 armistice.
United Armistice Thanksgiving Service At Auditorium
Plans for a United Armistice Thanksgiving service to be held Sunday in the Auditorium after regular church services to allow full participation. The G W V A has arranged a large Thanksgiving night dance at the Auditorium and a poppy drive for the following day. Armistice Day observance includes two minutes of silence with the fire siren sounding from 11 50 to 11 o'clock for the period.

Chimney Blaze Calls Out Brigade
Fire department responds to a chimney blaze at Amos Lafleur on Lumsden Avenue. Seven stovepipe holes were found in the chimney. Blaze extinguished with no damage reported.

The Premier of Canada W L Mack Son King spoke at a large Cranbrook rally addressing by election concerns in Yale. He outlined government aims to revive prewar prosperity, sustain Canada within the empire, and bolster agriculture and industry with a cautious fiscal plan. The audience welcomed him warmly, and speakers prior praised industry and unity across provinces.
