The Amateur Athletic Association host a successful indoor track meet at the Arena rink drawing six hundred spectators including Kimberley Wycliffe and Lumberton delegations. Winners include Verne Woodman in overall men’s events and Elizabeth Miller in girls events as Cranbrook High School triumphs in the girls relay. Meanwhile Kootenay Telephone Lines advances cable upgrades on Burwell Avenue and Louis Street with new poles and a 150 pair cable to improve local service.

Key City Lodge No 42 welcomed Deputy Grand Master C Fisher of Penticton who visited the B C jurisdiction. The meeting featured an initiatory degree and a veteran’s jewel presentation to J T Burkitt. A social with music followed, then Fisher spoke on Odd fellowship aims before departures to Sullivan Lodge and Fernie.

A car four miles east of Wardner overturned on a sharp turn killing George Hyte proprietor of the Commercial Cafe Lethbridge. Three other Greek men escaped. one seriously injured. Cameron and Cooper found the scene and helped. Cranbrook ambulance and Dr MacKinnon attended.

Veterans organize Armistice Day observance plans
City veterans outline a week of events for Armistice Day and Thanksgiving. A smoker on November 18 opens activities, a cemetery wreath ceremony on Sunday, and a unity service at the Auditorium. Armistice Day Siren To Mark Two Minute Silence
By direction of the Mayor and at the request of the Great War Veterans Association the Fire Siren will sound at 11 o’clock on Armistice Day November 11 to begin the two minute period of silence observed throughout the British Empire in memory of the 1918 armistice. All business should be suspended on hearing the siren to show loyal observance.

Distinguished British General Tuxford Visits Town Amid War Reminiscences

Obituary for Walter G. Fanning Sr in Cranbrook
Walter George Fanning Sr died at St Eugene Hospital at 88 after a brief illness from a brain clot. He came from Eastern Ontario and lived in Cranbrook with family, survived by son Walter Jr and three daughters, with two wives deceased. A noted horse judge and buyer for eastern fire departments, he allied with Methodism and Conservative politics. Funeral held Tuesday at the Methodist church.

The sixth annual western meeting of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy opened in Blairmore Alta with about 150 delegates from across the Dominion.
