Division I lists top students such as Lilian Jackson and Margaret Johnson with scores above 80 while several pupils fail to reach 50 percent. Division II records numerous enrollees and attendance notes with A Woodlands leading in Class 1 and 2. Division III and IV entries detail perfect attendance counts, quieter standings, and a continuation note on Page 3.
The Police Commission held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday evening with little outstanding. The police chief reported month’s arrests and offences including intoxication and vagrancy. Other items noted include heating system installs, new typewriters at Fernie High, and obituaries for Thomas H. Sadler with funeral services held.

Cranbrook High School announces September examination results with no pass in all subjects in Junior Matriculation. Advanced Junior passes include Donald Morrison 77 percent and Havel Lithhocker 68 percent. Monthly tests and end of month results, plus parent cooperation, are urged for better learning standards. Principal Wm C Wilson appeals for sustained home study.
Enid Florence Hilton of Cranbrook wed Herbert Murry Helliesen of Wattsburg B C in a simple ceremony at the home of Mr and Mrs J A Jones. Rev R W Lee officiated with Miss Helen Johnson as bridesmaid and Mr J C Robson as best man. The couple will reside in Wattsburg after a modest reception.
EB Jones of Wasa visits Cranbrook as Rex Theatre completes interior upgrades including an arch around the screen and mural panels. Knox Knox Congregational Society forms with weekly Wednesday meetings. Mademoiselle of Armientieres draws a large crowd at the Auditorium. Rev Peter Kelly of Vancouver to preach Sunday services at the Methodist church morning and evening.
Premier Meighen issues a manifesto to Canadians calling for clear debate on postwar reconstruction and national policy. He defends autonomy within the British Empire, urges industrial development, tariff protection, and opposition to Liberal tariff revisions amid a threatened rise of a new party.
Invermere October 6 Aulalmer hosts Liberal and Conservative delegates as they elect representatives for the Bass Kou tenay riding conventions to be held in Cranbrook October 12. Names from Windermere Wilmer Invermere and Athamer appear among nominees with several Liberal contenders also listed.
Star Theatre welcomes patrons to a grand opening Monday with a four hundred fifty seat, luxuriously decorated interior by Cranbrook Theatres Limited. Ross Carr oversaw panel walls with five color accents and indirect lighting, black velvet drapes, brown plush hangings, and two stage timepieces.
Sunday services by Rev Peter Kelley of Vancouver at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday School at noon. Monday evening public gatherings by the Young People's Society invite all women's church groups. Thursday midweek meeting noted with Rev Peter Kelley expected.
H. R. Hinton of the Trading Company was absent this week due to indisposition but returned to the counter today marking his first day back since the start of the week.
Ian Ollings of Pembroke Docks and Charles Edward Price of Watt Venue Cranbrook were married at Baptist Church Cranbrook B C on Monday Oct 3. Rev E W Mac Say officiated. The service featured bridal march and flowers with a reception at the groom’s parents home. Gifts included silverware sets and carved glassware. Guests included relatives from Vancouver and local families. The couple will reside with the groom’s parents.
J H Buckham M L A for Columbia visited the city this week. P R Master Mechanic McFadden bought a new Studebaker from Dezails Garage. Delany Sinclair store front and Mrs King residence received repainting, as did the government building gar ge for Jones and Doris. Masonic Hall also got a fresh coat of paint by W R Gibbs.
Nominating events loom with the Dominion election set for late November and December. In East Kootenay several candidates from Liberal and Conservative camps are named with others from Labor and an Independent possible. Windermere figures hold interest as R Randolph Bruce eyes an Independent bid, while A M Chisholm may seek government nomination. Fernie remains a Labor focus if a candidate consolidates the vote.
