Elections Set For Dec 6th in Dominion Returns
Ottawa announced last Sunday that polling in the Dominion elections will be on Tuesday December 6 with nominations on November 22. The new parliament meets January 17. Returning officer for the riding is T. G. Hamilton of Invermore who will organize polling divisions and appoint revising officers to ensure proper voters lists. Open registration lasts six days with final revision beginning about November 16 in urban centres.

City awards contracts to build soldiers' houses
A Cranbrook civic committee approved five contracts for new soldiers’ houses under the Dominion Better Housing scheme. Bonnell Elected Federal Standard Bearer At Invermere Nominating
In Invermere British Columbia on October 10 the federal electoral district nominating convention chose Dr. Saul Bonnell as the standard bearer in one ballot with Elmore Staples moving for unity. Crows Nest Golf Championship Crowns Cranbrook Contenders
The Crows Nest Pass Golf Championship held at Cranbrook Golf Club drew about 45 entrants in both the women's and men's events. Alan Graham of Cranbrook led in low qualifying and won the championship amid strong showings from Fernie and Cranbrook players. The men’s first flight saw E H McPhesa of Cranbrook defeat F P Perry of Fernie, while C Burgesa of Waldo edged C Ward for the handicap. In the women’s division Mrs Laws of Fernie defeated Mrs Staples to take the title, with Mrs H H Ross winning the handicap. A social dance followed, and district officers were elected to boost regional golf.

The first social of the newly formed club occurred on Saturday October 8 with a dance at 8:46 pm. Junior Jazz orchestra provided music and refreshments were served at 10:30 pm. A name for the club is sought and gift contributions may be given to Miss Jessie Baynes. News on the C R C hockey rink shows progress and a business class starts October 19 for members over 21. Mrs. Douglas now runs the library with hours Wednesdays 8-10 pm and Saturdays 2-4 pm.

Staples of Wycliffe Nominated in Heated Meeting
Dr J W Rutledge of Cranbrook nominated Staples of Wycliffe with Archie Leitch as seconder. A close vote of 24 to 21 favored Bonnell, then Staples’s motion led to an unanimous support for the rival candidate. Both nominees spoke strongly and the meeting closed with God Save the King.
Farewell Social for Cranbrook Couple Leaving for Lethbridge
Members of the Methodist Church held a well attended farewell at Cranbrook for Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Phillips who are moving to Lethbridge after thirteen years in Cranbrook. The event featured music by Alma Sarvis and the Shankland family, presentations including a life membership certificate for Mrs. Phillips, a brooch from the Ladies' Aid, and a silver tea set. The pastor praised their long service, noting Mrs. Phillips' roles in Sunday School, Ladies' Aid, choir, and as voluntary organist. Continuous best wishes were offered and the evening ended with Auld Lang Syne.
